Marketplace Environment on a USD Pipeline

This project is currently a work in progress based on Armand Serrano’s concept art, “The Marketplace”. This piece will be fully rendered in USD using Pixars Renderman in Houdini Solaris

Our Capstone Project

For my final Capstone project to complete my masters degree I partnered with another student, Daniel Arellano. Our initial idea was to model and surface a full environment. We knew little about the USD workflow. However, we began hearing from industry contacts on how useful and efficient USD is for teams and means of sharing assets.

After a teams based course with DreamWorks, we began to do more research on how we could potentially implement this tool into our project.

Currently our pipeline at Texas A&M University does not support this kind of workflow. We began trying to build our own pipeline for our project where this could be implemented. After running into many walls with maya, we decided to more the project to Houdini using Solaris.

We are currently still refining models and moving on to the look development phase of the pipeline, but below are some images of our in progress environment. This includes models I contributed thus far to the piece.

HDA’s : Houdini Digital Assets

Here are two breakdown videos that I made for the HDA’s I contributed to the project. I made a rope tool since the scene consists of a lot of rope. I also made a weaved fishing net HDA that we will implement into our set dressing as we continue the project
